It has been said that you never have a second chance to make a first impression… we agree! Your homepage should have 3-6 photos and a short description that defines your property and brand promise.
Your slideshow should include at least one photo of the exterior, a room and any important property amenities. Captured by compelling images, your visitors will explore your site and learn what it is you offer over your competitors. Guests want to see what they will experience, so the quality of photos often has a direct correlation to the number of converting visitors. You are selling against other sites - so put your best foot forward.
Your photographs should be high-resolution, ideally 1920x1080 pixels and up to 5 MB. To maximize the platform, we recommend you use landscape (horizontal) photos for your homepage slideshow. If you are in an area with seasonality, be sure to change your photos to match the season you are selling. Should your location have more consistent weather patterns, it is still a good idea to “freshen your home page” at least once a year.
In addition to your photography, this is the first opportunity to welcome and entice your potential guests to stay with you through your language. In about 500 words, introduce your property, giving visitors a sense of the experience you offer. Detail what makes your property and area exceptional. While writing, think about keywords that a visitor might be using to search for your property (i.e. hotels in Seattle, weddings in Chicago, bed and breakfast in Savannah). In order for you to increase your search relevance, you should have keywords represented in homepage text. Complete this under Marketing > Galleries > Homepage > Featured > Short Description.
Additionally, widgets and badges allow you to feature valuable content that is already on your site or may exist on an external site like Facebook or your town’s Chamber of Commerce page.
Why is improving your Homepage important?
Having enticing photography and compelling language on your homepage will ensure initial engagement with your website. You will see your bounce rate decrease in 360 Analytics*. An ideal range for bounce rate (the number of visitors who leave your site immediately) is between 20-40%.
The more people that stay engaged with your site, the larger funnel you will start with to gain bookings. Visitors will be intrigued by what your property has to offer and will move through your additional pages and into your reservation system.

People tend to browse with multiple tabs open at once.To navigate back to each site it is helpful to have an icon on the tab that reflects your brand. You are able to update this in the BackOffice under Settings > Info > Shortcut Icon. Best practice is to use a 16x16 pixel icon that represents your brand. You can also use your logo in this area. Adding a favicon is a simple way to continue to market your brand on your website.
